I really am actually only focusing on one track. My chiptune track is already completely recorded. Even with extensive editing, it won't take me more than a day to record and master my chiptune track. The majority of my focus will be on my pop song.
Why do you object to me doing a cover? I actually plan on making it really good, because it's a song I have wanted to play for a long time live, but never got around to making a cover. I'm going to make a good deal of it original, and it will definitely be drastically different from the original. If you truly object to a cover, please tell me what you want in terms of a chip-pop song as soon as possible, so I can start work on it right away.
Again, I'm not trying to be a dick about this. I just don't want undue stress because I'm getting this dropped on me. And doing it isn't stressful or a chore, but it will be if I'm given an assignment without enough information to finish it to meet your standards.

i don't care if one of the songs is a cover. i'm sure it will sound drastically different.

if you want to do a cover then do a cover. ideally, you cant argue that it is much nicer to have an amazing track that is 100% original. i was heart broken when i found out that the USK track "Fuxmas Mr 303" was a cover. spamtron is a really awesome artist, but it would be MUUUUUUUCH more gratifying knowing that all of his tracks were actually 100% original
EDIT: thanks evan, youre right, the bassist guy from Anamanaguchi has a really awesome lsdj solo project

Sabrepulse said he MIGHT throw on Lightspeed Disco for the comp. You never know with that man though. I believe Sabrepulse is still active, just not on Myspace.

But I guess here's my thing with originals: 1) Whether you believe it or not, it actually does take me a long time to make original songs. It didn't used to, but I had a much simpler formula then-slap some mediocre rhyming lyrics on a drum, bass, and keyboard track, record it, clean it up, and send it off. Not only do I do a LOT more work with the mixing process now, I do a LOT more work on the actual making of the song, from the quality of the lyrics to the complexity of the instrumentation. So becase I'm on a time constraint, it will speed things up significantly to have a guide to already work off of. It will be very different (the song is about a minute and a half long i think, and I'm going to try and stretch it to three, on a tempo that's about twice as fast) and hopefully very cool. 2) I used to have a good 50 or 60 fully written songs, and I have now gone down to less than 20, LSDJ tracks included. I need every bit of original material to go on my actual albums. A lot of bands actually do this. AFI has been on tons of compilations, and I can think of maybe 3 songs that were originals on them (and two of them were less than 1:30). I can think of about 7 different cover songs they did though. I think as long as you do a good job there's no shame in writing a cover. For instance Nick's version of Little Sound Disko #whatever is amazing and (dare i say) blows the original away. I couldn't even tell that it was a cover (funny because I actually like and had listened to the original before and didn't notice), and after comparing, am surprised at the originality Fighter X put into it. So sorry man. Hopefully you'll like it anyway. I doubt you've heard the original song so you can just pretend it isn't! You won't even be able to tell probably.

Shirobon is now telling me he's saving 20 unreleased tracks for an album he's putting out on a label he just got "signed" to. I'm trying to deal with him but he's telling me to put one of his old already released tracks on the comp. What's everyone think about this?

nah i'd say we shouldn't put on old already released tracks. we're not that desperate yet right?

I don't see why not. If it's a good song no one is going to mind hearing it again (or for a lot of people probably hearing it for the first time!).
ha USK and Maru not speaking English would be a serious problem. You need a translator!

we told that sap the only way we'd put an old already released track is if its an improved, extended, new version or something.
oh by the way, a.r.y. and phlogiston are in now. mcfiredrill finally confirmed, still no word from leeni

i'm surprised leeni didnt reply yet. she's usually pretty good about communication. but yeah, aaron's right. no old tracks unless they are revamped somehow. it just makes sense.
