Alright so we really have to start planning the new Crunchy Records Compilation CD. Here are the questions we have to answer:
1. Who will be on it? Every Crunchy Records artist or only select ones? What about non-Crunchy Records guest contributors?
2. How long should it be? How many tracks? and how many tracks per artist?
3. When does it need to be released? Before December? Before January?
4. Who will be designing the artwork and what will it be?
5. Any other ideas or thoughts?
----------------------------------------------------------------
So here are my ideas in regards to the questions above. Anyone feel free to agree/disagree/give your own ideas.
1. Any CrunchyCo artist can contribute as long as their tracks are good. Last time we just threw on tracks just so that everyone could be on it. I think it's more important to showcase the best we can because this comp is supposed to represent us. The key is to contact the Crunchy artists about it right away so they can get some tracks made. If the tracks are good, we'll put them on. I'm not opposed to contacting non-CrunchyCo guests to fill space if necessary.
2. The last CD had 22 tracks, which is nice but I suppose quality would be better than quantity this time. I would say the new comp should have no less than 12 tracks, which is a reasonable size for an album. It can definitely have more, but 12 at the very least. That's a very manageable goal. Last time we had each artist provide 2 tracks. I would say that this time an artist can decide to contribute 1 or 2 depending on what's doable.
3. Aaron mentioned that it would be nice to have the compilation ready to pass out at Blipfest early December. That would only give us a little more than a month to get this done, which will be hard but a good goal to shoot for. If not an early December release, it has to come out before 2009.
4. I did the artwork last time. I could do it again but I kind of don't want to because I have so much other stuff going on. It would be nice if someone else would step up and do the art this time. I could contact some artists I know. Maybe the interested persons could all make something and we can choose the best one.
5. Aaron mentioned some ideas about collaboration tracks which I think is a great idea. Having artists work together on some tracks would lessen the strain on everyone individually and be a lot of fun.
At any rate, we need to start figuring this out ASAP if it's going to get done. Any other thoughts/ideas/plans?
