For tracks, Oven Rake is definitely a possibility. Cyber Pimp or Live Animals stuff perhaps too as long as the tracks are listenable and lovable. Kinoko for album art is a great idea. Maybe not for tracks though.

Queston, I have not heard of a single band you guys have mentioned which i not a bad thing, but they sound like chiptune/electronic music. I don't know if you guys plan on having bands like The get or hippo but I think too much of the chiptune/electro scene music will make the other bands sound really awkward on the comp. especially if you do the 18 song comp. 16 electro, 2 alternative. So one thing I think is that it should either be strictly electro (chiptune or 8bit??/electronic)or a 12 track with a couple alternative songs. I don't know if you guys were even tossing around the idea of The Get or hippo but as far as the sound of the comp goes that it what I think about it.
On another note however, me if I was told about a crunchy co comp and was familiar with bands under that label, I would be expecting at least one song from each of the artists on the artists page. At least the ones that are active, not BTD or ZEEK USA?? Unless they make some sort of a special song like you guys said, just for this comp.
So, are these bands that you guys been nameing... naming..?? WTF how do you spell that?? anyways, are they just bands that crunchy artists have played with? or are they just bands that would be fun to put on the comp? or are they crunchy artists that are not listed. I think that i they are not crunchy artists, it would be really odd to put them on the comp.
I really like the idea of doing co-op songs and I think that would be the best way to incorporate non-crunchy artists. I would say one track from each artist would be like the first ten or so, and then the rest should be co-op projects or special guests or whatever you decide on.
Also I think it would be really cool to have a bonus disc maybe? or at least something specail when you put the disc in the computer, like live videos or interviews or some special message from the crunchy co staff. Or maybe some comics, even though they are online. Something extra I just think would be really cool to add but maybe I am just thinking about this comp to pretentiously. Or maybe a video preview of what is to come from crunchy co 2009!! That would be really cool and fun and a good pre-promoter.
ok im done

since this release it a promotional tool, having guests artists is a good way to go. if we're going to be printing it / distributing it, the length and quality is very important. we just need to make sure the crunchy artists arent the worst part of the comp hahah! 1) as long as the track is quality / meets our standards, im not opposed to any particular artists hey man, 18 is a cute goal to set for ourselves! it doesnt mean we'll throw a bunch of crappy smugg or baboon songs on the end just to meet it though 1 month should be more than enough time; if you were a full band, like THE GET, i could understand how you would need more time to get your whole band together, practice, finish a song, go into a recording studio, record each instrument, record drums, record vocals, send it out to get mastered, etc

sorry jack, i think the blacklist for the comp is pretty much: henry homesweet, we are the future, nullsleep, and unicorn kid. EDIT: jack, theres really not a track that youve started that doesnt really seem like an album track? and even if the song IS good, whats bad about having great sounding bsides? you can still put the track on your myspace, still play the song live, and people can still download it from your crunchyco profile. in fact, thats probably a really good way to promote an upcoming album! and 1 month should be more than enough time; not only have many people made great songs for the 8BC 48 hour challenge, but honestly more than one month of time really just gives more time for procrastination. one month is probably TOO much time! havent you ever gotten homework where you were given TOO much time and never did it? but if you were given less time you would have thought about it more? if you were a full band, like THE GET, i could understand how you would need more time to get your whole band together, practice, finish a song, go into a recording studio, record each instrument, record drums, record vocals, send it out to get mastered, etc Why are WATF and Unicorn Kid blacklisted? I think both of them are worlds more user-friendly than UDA. This sounds like personal preference. As for time with my songs, I have to get inspired, make up words, get all the lyrics together so they are rhythmically audibly pleasing, compose and program a drum line, a bass line, a guitar line (that I can play and sing at the same time), and gameboy pieces that eventually need to be recorded into Fruity Loops, Mix all the levels correctly and EQ it, transfer the backing tracks to my recording program, record decent guitar lines, record decent vocal tracks, edit the decently recorded vocal tracks for volume, eq, and panning, and effects, re-eq and level everything for the recording, THEN export the full track into a song file. I know at least one track will be an LSDJ track, but not both. I'm not exclusively a chiptune artist, and I never will be. And either way I'm definitely going to make sure to take an appropriate amount of time to put out any track I make, because I'm sick of good songs being turned into terrible recordings because of a shotty mixing job I slapped together at the last minute. 90% of those 48hr challenge tracks you mentioned are either terrible or based on some unorthodox song premise. This is for real though, so I'm going to take it seriously.

long story short derek, crunchyco is not targeting non-electronic artists because: 1) the comp's deadline is November 30th 2) the comp will be given out for free at blipfest 3) thats the direction / focus crunchy records plans on going by the way derek, if you install the latest version of firefox, it implements a spell check wherever you type. but anyway, i would like to stay on track. i plan on messaging all crunchyco artists and guests we plan on involving on the comp within 1-2 days and give them the full information so they can get started. gabe and nick (and anyone else) i would like to see a continued list of suggested guest artists so we can have a finalized list of who we want to involve. do you guys really not have any ideal artists you would like to see on the comp? and just for fun, who should we add to the crunchy blacklist? so far we have: crunchy artists: kghb, mcfiredrill, fighterx, circles, leeni, firebrand boy, sabrepulse, wiklund and spamtron guests: nordloef, syphus, saskrotch, trash80, disasterpeace, CCIVERY, IAYD, USK i also would suggest MARU or Psykelur but i dont think they have been active for AGES. plus theres a good chance maru doesnt speak english haha! theres also Hally, but thats VERY doubtful. hmmm Tugboat? Shirobon? am i missing anyone nick / how about more diverse artists? blacklist = henry homesweet, we are the future, nullsleep, and unicorn kid, Akari||8GB

eek! how did so many people post already? jack, you are only one guy so you can easily work on a song whenever you have free time. working with a band takes MUCH more time! you have to get everyone together, wait for each person to make a part, schedule recording time for each artist, wait for everyone to finish, etc. and youre working with a pretty good amount of electronic elements still, right? granted, you'll have to record guitar and vocals, and believe me i know its not going to be THAT easy for you or kghb to finish the songs in one month. cmon i thought everyone hates unicorn kid

hahah its no problem dd, i was just too lazy to repeat myself and plenty of the artists will be incorporating more than exclusively lsdj. kghb, fighter x (may use some midines) nordloef (sidstation, midines) syphus, wiklund (lsdj+nano) firebrand boy, leeni, spamtron, disasterpeace, trash80; i think everyone will be doing recording/mixing to some extent. but not on the same level as an actual band, which is why we dont expect them to finish / plan to involve them (and i mean, finish a song with enough quality to meet our standards) EDIT: but anyway, i would like to stay on track. gabe and nick (and anyone else) i would like to see a continued list of suggested guest artists so we can have a finalized list of who we want to involve

Because of this the chip-pop song I do will probably be a cover. That'll be fun, easy, and if it's a notable recognizable song then people will have fun listening to it. Ha I love sappy poppy music. I don't know what Unicorn Kid did but I don't see the problem.

I would really like to see USK or IAYD on it, also apparently Hally doesnt really release his stuff (according to the 2pp people) but that would be amazing if you got him haha.
and by everyone hating unicorn kid, is it because of that 8bc 48h challenge crap?
