yeah, well grassfest definitely has had some issues in the past but i personally would never consider the event to be "the worst experience / show of the whole year" by any means. It has always been very fun and enjoyable to me, and it's not like the negative things can't be improved upon. If grassfest sucks, we're the only ones to blame because its our fucking show, and really the only big event we ever put on so we've got to keep it up with a positive attitude, otherwise yes, it will suck and we'd be to blame.
electronic bands will sound good if we have a good enough sound system this time.

aaron im tired of your shit. just fucking stop bitching some times and enjoy yourself. brandon, could you please go over and read the forum rules again before you continue to post on this forum. everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you dont agree with something that someone posts on here, you may debate the topic, but lets keep it mature and try to refrain from making it personal acquisitions and insults. with that said, again im not really sure how serious to even take your post really, i mean you may have been drinking a bit before you posted.. but anyways, let me get this straight, you are bitching and complaining that i bitch and complain too much? haha i find that a bit hypocritical, but this is also quite an exaggeration, if you go to www.crunchyco.com/staff.html you should know that i at least enjoy a few things, such as cereal. now, i could come onto this forum and go on and on about how much i enjoy cereal, but who cares? i find it much more interesting to debate and to disagree, but again not everything i post on here is negative by any means. So why exactly did you even get so upset for my negative views on grassfest anyway? grassfest really has nothing to do with you, and to be fair, i am the one who created grassfest, i think if anyone has the right to complain about it, i think it should be me! Now obviously the part of my post where i start to laugh and say "do i really have to come" was a joke, of course i will come. me and gabe are the two heads of crunchyco, why would i not come to a crunchyco event? but i stand behind that grassfest was the worst show / expirience of 2006 and 2007. of course grassfest is fun as far as hanging out with friends, listening to nicks dad, eating hot dogs, and watching some of the other artists perform, but im not talking about grassfest from a fans perspective. im speaking from an electonic musician's persoective grassfest has been the worst expirience / show in the past years/ Lets go over 2006. I performed in TEETHANDFEET, Smuggling Chewbacca, and KGHB. Now first of all, when we go there we were met with nick moffit screaming telling us were not going to be playing, that we missed our slot. then eventually smuggling chewbacca played. not only did we have such a horrible sound system, but the show was outdoors, and there were no walls containing the sound. and not only that, one of the two PA speakers mysteriously stopped working, so we only used one side! then you have the typical grassfest clashing group, were the are so many different genres of music at grassfest and that there are different groups of people there that are there for their specific genre but are confused with the diversity. so when smugg played, we were met with people very upset, at one point even had urine thrown at us! not only that, brandon was so embarassed he wouldnt speak with me and wanted to quit the band because we took off our clothes and covered ourselves with blood. then later, teethandfeet played which not only did we play so bad, we were entirely electronic and was embarassing how bad is sounded on the PA. then fighter x played (maybe it was before actually) which he still stands by that is was his worst performance because of the badly PAed, poorly organized and set up outdoor show. then by the time kghb was setting up, people were booing and shouting "havent you guys already played? how are you guys in every band?" this was a typical kghb unprepared show, but was met with an absolutely horrible PA, lerin not practicing and screwing up every song, my clunky piece of crap bass and gabes bad sounded vocoder. I can not think of a more humiliating event, and really, was there an event were i performed in 3 bands in one day and they all turned out that bad? what show in 2006 was worse than this? so grassfest is supposed to be crunchyco's big event, but i find it sad that it has turned out to be (in the past) our worst shows. this is obviously because of the bizarre set lists of mismatch genres, the poor setting of the backyard of some house, the complete disorganization of not knowing whos going next or were bands are, and the using a cheap, distorted PA. i agree that getting a much better sound system and better organization could save this event, and no matter what its good to have just because crunchyco does make a good profit off of it. with that said, i think lemonfest is a much better crunchyco event. and gabe's views are much like mine; grassfest is a fun place to hang out, but he realzes it is and has been a bad experience / show for kghb in the past, thus why he doesnt think kghb or fighter x should play

Yeah 2006 was horrible. I still had fun, but it was horrible. 2007 got a little better and hopefully 2008 will get a lot better. We'll keep working on it to make it the fun event it should be.
It's true that I don't want KGHB or Fighter X to play if it's going to sound like shit. That's just a no brainer. If we can get a hold of a sound system that does electronic music justice in the wild outdoors, and if we set it up and test it thoroughly to make sure it sounds good, then it will be okay for electronic bands to play. If it's not going to work, then whatever, it's not that big of a deal. It does make sense for our own bands to play at our own shows, but then again it is kind of nice to get fresh bands in that people haven't seen before so it's not the same show over and over again.

i vote for adding folk bands to the mix. gabe, remember those stupid evergreen kids that made their stupid fake radio show on that "weird america" -- the FOLK music that supposedly didn't fit into any genre? coughFOLKcough. and then the way they proceeded to describe it was "folk, indie," etc. all GENRES, right? hahaha... ohhhh okay, enough reminiscing...
what i was trying to say before i got distracted by my own flashbacks, was:
oh wait, i already said it. folky indie bands. because, a)that kind of stuff is meant to be played in a grassy field, and b) um, it's pretty sounding? i don't know why i always do that a-b-c crap because i never have more than one point. but! coughKIMYADAWSONcough. get a bunch of bands with substantial followings and they'll all converge at grassfest, and then merge into one big blob of fans~!

If Kimya Dawson would seriously consider playing a free music festival in someone's backyard, then that would be great. Like I said, why don't you ask her Lizzy? You know enough about what Grassfest is. The date is August 23. She'd be a great daytime act assuming she's not too big now for backyard shows. I wonder if she has a booking agent we'd have to go through?

You know, I keep mentioning people I know, but I do mean it. This girl, Neicie, does fun solo acoustic stuff. Not sure how exactly it'd be received, but I do know she's up for small shows.

thanks for the suggestions, it's just tough to organize all this over a forum. what i need to do is sit down at a meeting with my staff and go over the potentials list, which will include all suggestions so far.
