a perfect compalation would have an amazing list of tracks that are exclusive to that comp and are all completely original tracks. every song that an artist eventually releasing on an album or releases for free some where else all somewhat degrade the comp, make the comp less worthwhile, etc. if our comp was for sale, i would not have put ANY covers on it or tracks that people intended on releasing on other places. but since ours is free and there really wasnt that long of notice for people, i didnt really expect too much BUT am kinda disappointed on how many people think its okay to put a released song on 8bc a) I was never told I couldn't put my tracks on 8bc b) My song page mentions the compilation and links to crunchyco. Anyone looking at my track will probably go and find the rest of the comp. c) It's free either way so who cares d) I would honestly like to know if anyone who listened to my cover track had honestly heard the Unicorn's original version of "Jellybones" before hand. Hell, I'd love to know if anyone has even bothered to do so now. For all intents and purposes, my track is original. I picked it for a reason. If I hadn't mentioned it was a cover, you would've thought I made it up. And the remix is about 4 and a half minutes longer than the original track. BUUUUT I guess other than that, it's EXACTLY the same. Yep, I just took a 30 second background song and extended it to 5 minutes. nothing new. I don't want to be a jerk or anything, but I really feel like my tracks were original, well-crafted, and were far from the worst tracks on the album. I can think of some stuff that detracted from the quality of the compilation far more than the fact that my tracks are covers or one of them happens to be on another site.

"d) I would honestly like to know if anyone who listened to my cover track had honestly heard the Unicorn's original version of "Jellybones" before hand."
Yeah, man, I really like the Unicorns. Your cover was good, I thought. It is quite different from the original, obviously. I usually like covers to be VERY different, to the point of sounding almost nothing alike, but you certainly weren't just replaying the same song.
One thing I wish, though, is that is had been labeled as a cover of the Unicorns, so maybe some people would look up the original, because I think they (were) great and deserve whatever publicity they can get, and I'm sure you'd agree, since you're a fan, too.

Yeah they're so incredibly underrated. I love it when hipsters get mad at me for disliking Of Montreal when they've never even heard of The Unicorns OR Islands, which are probably the hippest two bands I can think of. yeah i wonder if anyone who doesn't know that song just thinks jack wrote it. lawsuit! lawsuit! I credited them everywhere I put the song up! Look on my page, their logo is even the picture for the song! Aah don't sue me Nick Diamonds!

Um it's probably not the hugest deal but you could on the comp's song list just stick (The Unicorns) after the song title. That's usually enough.

I can think of some stuff that detracted from the quality of the compilation far more than the fact that my tracks are covers or one of them happens to be on another site. alright, i dont really want to spend too much time discussing this since since our comp is free i hardly care very much about this BUT i would say the fact that most of the comp not exclusive to crunchyco (available on other sites, such as 8bc) and other songs are planned to be released on future albums is pretty lame. but im pretty sure we've already discussed both of these topics in this thread before: if you want to do a cover then do a cover. ideally, you cant argue that it is much nicer to have an amazing track that is 100% original. i was heart broken when i found out that the USK track "Fuxmas Mr 303" was a cover. spamtron is a really awesome artist, but it would be MUUUUUUUCH more gratifying knowing that all of his tracks were actually 100% original as an artist, you should always put either an exclusive song on a comp or at least a special version or something. otherwise, your presence on the comp doesnt stand the test of time very well, and the importance of the comp is also reduced. haha but honestly, it doesnt matter that much, but it should matter to you! it would be nice to say that we have an amazing comp with exclusive songs that you cant get anywhere else but crunchyco.com, but thats just not the case

ha ha well anyways, so did anyone notice the artists who promised a track but never made it onto the comp? these include: KGHB, IAYD, She, Rymdcraft, (i think that might be it) pretty surprising how many artists agreed and followed through! so has anyone re-listened to last years comp from beginning to end, then listened to this years comp? which one was more enjoyalbe? was this years much of an improvement? heh heh heh

Yeah I'm really happy that so many artists got involved and did what they said they'd do. I'm pretty disappointed that we didn't get a track from She, but o well.

hehe Like my Wiklund impression? Yeah i'm sad we didn't get She as well but it's hard to bitch too much when there are already so many artists I myself thought would say no. I'm a big pessimist though.
