For anyone who received the Everett Herald today, you'll find that CrunchyCo made the news! An article by Andy Rathbun describes CrunchyCo's current chiptune craze. For those of you who didn't get the paper, or aren't local, you can read the article (and listen to Fighter X's Finisher 3000) at the Herald website here: www.heraldnet.com/article/20080714/LIVING/919003441Read and discuss!

I can tell you that for the most part DJing=lazyness It's more bad then it is good. People who have DJ sets get way too much credit....but most people are just ignorant.

We made it pretty clear that we know the difference between DJ "live sets" and their "DJ sets". we do not have very much respect for all these DJ sets, and i dont know when it became acceptable for DJs to sit at a turn table and play other peoples songs. i guess you are right nick, most people are just ignorant, and thats what sucks about DJs. Haha i didnt our conversation about DJs with the writer was part of the interview by the way! My other quote from the article, "People older are very confused" is not a very good quote. We were talking about who exactly the target audience was, and I was saying its mainly between 14-32 ish range, people older than that are very confused. I guess he should have done something like this with my quote "People older [than 30] are very confused" or something like that, ya know?

wow, im not sure how much i liked that article. it was alright i guess. horrible, terrible, quotes. no matter if those are your opinions or not it instantly made you guys out to seem like kind of jerks. which really sucks. the person witting this should have gone far out of their way to do the exact opposite.

hahaha, yeah. it seemed like all your quotes were taken way out of context. and, he sort of worded it weird when he was talking about crunchyco, saying they "sell the work of other artists." which makes it sound like you're selling something that isn't yours, which rings back to the little thing about DJs not playing their own music-- which implies that you guys are no better than DJs, haha...which, doesn't seem to have a place in the article at all! the point YOU guys were making was DJing is nothing like chiptune-- which is exactly WHY it shouldn't have come up in an article about chiptune, right? was this guy just a terrible writer or was he trying to make you sound like assholes? hahaha

"they're quick to note the music is different from DJing." That's the lead in line to the bit about DJs. It could have been worded a little better, but it's there to clear up any confusion in someone who might think Game Boy artists are merely DJing. The quotes definitely aren't the best. Although most DJ's definitely don't deserve as much credit as they get. I'll grant that a few DJs have talent IF they actually make their own music and remixes, but that's pretty rare. It really doesn't take much to be a DJ, and very few DJs deserve to call themselves musicians. The quote "People older are very confused" is bad because Aaron didn't exactly use proper grammar. The bit about selling other people's music could've been worded better. Well, I guess a lot of it could've been. Even with all the flaws, I wouldn't say it's a 'bad' article. Press is press, and no matter what it's getting our name out there.

why would any one be saying to them selves, "Oh my god! CHIPTOON IS DJ'ing" enough to the point where it would have to be corrected very firmly in this article that has nothing to do with DJing.

When the general public that hear about how people are making music using game boys, the first thing that they thing is that they are playing an actual game, and somehow remixing the background music. A lot of people have a hard time understanding that we are composing and writing our own music on the game boy; Andy the herald writer at first didnt really get that we wrote our own music and basically asked us if we were Djs. We REALLY wanted to get the point across that we are definitely not DJs, we write our own music and are not just playing other peoples songs. i would have rather him said in the article that these artists are composing music using a Swedish sequencer that is a home brewed programed flashed onto a cartridge, but maybe that was to confusing

I like it. It's odd, but it's press. It definitely focuses a bit too much on chiptunes, but if that's what people want to know about, so be it.

Every article needs a focus, it was most certainly the most interesting aspect of crunchyco as far as a newsworthy story goes
