Yo, this may not be a strictly crunchyco thing but I have taken it upon myself, and a select few of motivated individuals, to plan out chipfest 2010. I got really big plans for this year and I have been in contact with many artists across the country whom all expressed interest in coming to Seattle. We are currently looking for funding purposes (grants, and stuff like that). I also thought the Vera would be a perfect spot for the 2-3 day bash.
I posted this to see if any of you could do some sweet talkin' at the Vera, or if anyone knows how much it costs to rent it out... GO!
Ps. Backwards NW doesn't have anything to do with it anymore, so no complaining this time!

First step: Don't call it Chipfest. Not only is Chipfest a thoughtless name for a chiptune festival, but that crappy name is already taken in the United Kingdom. I would suggest Beta Fest or something like that. That was a good one, Dakota I'm sure some of us could help financially with a select few artists... A notable chiptune festival in Seattle would be great this year since 2 Player Production will be based in Oregon. I think it's important to get some amazing out-of-state chiptune producers over here.

agreed 100% I'll run Betafest across the others and i'm glad someone else noticed 2PP moving to PDX, i nearly wept tears of joy. I can't say who I have in mind and who has expressed interest, but let's just say if we get at least $1000 raised we will have a fucking mind-numbing 3 day fest. Would crunchyco be interested in throwing some fund-raising shows?? Because I'm sure we would get more than $20 if we had you guys backing it up

If I were to offer a few suggestions... I think 3 days seems like a bit much. I think we had a pretty hard time filling out even 2 days last year, and it would be uber expensive/difficult to take control of Vera for that long. Probably 2 days or even just 1 day would be ideal. Also, I think it would be a good idea to just go ahead and maybe tell us (personally if you're that big on keeping it a secret) who you have in mind to play, since perhaps we could help negotiate getting them here, or offer suggestions for other artists that would be fantastic. Would just be nice to know y'know? and work together and all that.

darmas = dramas, i dont want no scrubs this time around It's not like im trying to surprise anyone who i've been talking to, but i'd rather not be super anticlimactic when some of them decide they can't make it.
I'll be sure to contact the both of you somehow, and duly noted Jack. I just gotta sweet talk one more Backwards person, and the ball should start rolling.

I think we should brainstorm a list of names to choose from and not settle on the first thing we think of. I'm not too fond of chipfest or betafest.
I also agree it should be 2 days, not 3.
And there better not be any freaky noise bands this time.
As for what dakota said about CrunchyCo hosting fund raising shows, that is a fine idea, only I'm not exactly sure how much we'd reel in. It would be something to help though, so we should def consider it. What were the proposed dates for this fest again?

Ideally, I would love to have a 3rd day for mainly local artists. Looking at how these will be scheduled, I think showcasing the local talent instead of leeching off of established success from yonder would be a great homage to our colorful little gathering. The plan is 2 days at the Vera, and the third...somewhere else rlatively close and homey?
Gabe: if you can think of a better name, by all means. I'm a little more concerned with finding a non-profit organization/ funding for this year's festivities. Also don't worry about a repeat of the same noise. As much as I'd like to have him again, there's been bad stuff going on.
Also another update: Backwards is still going to be helping (Joy to be specific), They are a great asset when it comes to booking/promoting. I'm also wihtin contact of Reactionary helping with promotions as well. Oh and hey, 2PP is moving to PDX, how convenient? Let's go balls out on this shit and make them never want to go back to NY
If some crunchydudes could something arranged at ground zero or something in support of *fest, I would be VERY appreciative. Seriously, anything helps.
oh yeah, Last weekend of March is the proposed time. (spring breaktiemz)

I can make GZ happen! They're mah boyz. How many artists could we possibly have that we could fill 2 days without locals? that would be at least 8 and that's a LOT. I seriously think like 1 day and like 8 artists would be ideal. 4-5 local ones and 3-4 not so local ones?

You won't have a successful 3-day chip-festival in Seattle like those Easterners can in Brooklyn. Multiple great artists in one day at GZ would be really awesome. International headlinerssss yeahhh!!!

I guess 1 day could work...but then what would be the big deal of putting so much effort into it? If this is going to be by any means some kind festivity, it really adds to the whole experience that you take multiple days off work, sleep in a strangers house, barely eat, and listen to constant jams. I also have people planning on doing installation arts and workshops before the music (which really helps when it comes to third party funding). And that'd be a nearly wasted effort to crunch all into one day.
Also it would be a huge let-down if it was in ground zero as opposed to anywhere in Seattle. It's a cool venue and all, but if out of-towners were flown out to Bellevue instead of Seattle, I'm sure they'd be a little disappointed. If it was just like last years with the addition of a few more out of towners, and other arts we'd be in business.
Those are just my two cents though.

Those two cents are nice, Dakota. I just don't know who to side with anymore. GZ truly does blow ass. Workshops would be sweet. Fuck Bellevue altogether.

But if we had a show featuring all y'all at GZ, charged people at least $4 to get in, I think we could get some kind considerable cashflow for a nice little get-together I could help with that, but that's more so crunchy territory than my usual coffee shop/awkward show thing.
