What should I do to start a band... I've been thinking about getting a nice guitar amp since I've been playing acoustic guitar for a while but I like playing drums a little bit and keyboards too... I always loved effects too so I've always drawn closely to synths. Thing is, I just want to record with nice mics somehow of what I have so far. I got a Yamaha PSR-19 Keyboard, a drum set, and an acoustic guitar. What microphone would be best suited for me so I could record a bit? Should I just get a mixer and start there and forget getting an electric guitar? *Random questions, I know .

Microphones really don't matter, depending on what you want. I myself use a Rock Band one, which sounds fine.

Microphones really don't matter, gotta disagree with you there. ask any vocalist and you'll find that microphones definitely DO matter. there's a wide variety of them and the style and quality of the one you use can make a big difference. as for hendrix starting to make music, you just gotta ask yourself a few questions: 1. solo or group? if you want to be solo, you will have complete control, although having people collab with you could also be a great benefit. 2. what kind of sound do you want? if you want a guitar in your music, then get a guitar, if not, then don't. if you want a synth, use a synth. it's pretty simple, just decide what instruments you would like to hear in your own music. this might be based off of how strong your skills are with them. maybe choose the instruments you have the best ability with. In any case, if you are going to record multiple instruments, you should invest in a mixer no matter what. It's a tool that any electronic musician should have period.

Well, I'm thinking that a group environment would help expose me to new interests. Plus I would share direction by giving authority to specific people on a certain record and switching it up a bit so I don't come across as a power monger.
Can you recommend any good mixers to use?
Cause If I get a couple mics with a mixer, I think I'm set to start making instrumentals until I get a real backing band (preferably by maybe advertising at the college I'm going to in the fall).

Microphones really don't matter, depending on what you want. But if there's something you specifically want, then doesn't it matter? Anyways, hendrix, you should just go into a music store and tell them what you're thinking about doing. they will probably be able to direct you toward a nice mixer to fit your needs, and hopefully it fits your budget too.

It depends, again. The more specific, the more it matters.

Alright. I think I'll probably save some more since I'm leaning towards an amp + guitar....
Then again, I could get a synth and a mixer and start some stuff up. I really can't decide lawl.
Musiciansfriend will be my source though cause I don't have a local Guitar Center.

Hmm the layout of the website honestly looks a bit shady. How is their reliability? And how do their prices compare to other sites? I really don't mean to support Musiciansfriend but aren't the prices the same? If not, prove me wrong man .

zzounds is good. Sweetwater is better. I don't really have any side by side comparisons but I do distinctly recall getting ripped off by musiciansfriend once. And both of the above sites are legit. Trust the internet.

I love the internet man. So much better than the Corporate tubes that millions love.
I'll check out sweetwater.
Do they have alright guitar amps and do they ship East Coast, USA?
