i'm super excited to see spike jonze's adaptation of where the wild things are i think it's coming out next year? its in post-production. it's live action, ANIMATRONICS!, and some cgi. it was written by dave eggers, an author who's pretty popular among the hip kids. i've never read his stuff but i've heard good things i'm excited. [for those of you who never read it -- an illustration from the book] i've seen stills and a leaked clip of it-- which was apparently just a screen test? but it looks really good i guess it's going to be a bit dark, as it should be, and the studio wanted to dilute it and dumb it down for the wee ones. (which, on a side note, if i were a kid, i would be insulted by the children's movies they've come out with in the past decade. kids are smart, and they can follow a storyline, and they can stomach unhappy endings. but if they keep releasing things like that chihuahua movie? who knows.) so i think jonze took it somewhere else that wouldn't stifle his work.. and that's why it's taking so long... and, speaking of children's book adaptations.... whatever happened to wes anderson's stop-motion animation of roald dahl's fantastic mr. fox they started that SO long ago. i was starting to think it was canned 'cause i haven't heard anything on it for so long. but i guess the release date is november 6th 2009. i'm glad to see some of my favorite directors stepping in and bringing animatronics and stop animation (and undiluted storylines!) back to children's films. i'm happy now just thinking about it.

yeah holy shit that looks like it's gonna be kinda dark and moody as it should be. i love puppets and animatronics and stop animation. takes far more skill and talent to pull off and it looks way better than cgi bullshit.
i don't know much about fantastic mr. fox. got any pictures to show?

well, i can't find a single picture or screen shot of fantastic mr. fox, but i DO know that the stop motion animators working on it are alex mcdowell and henry selick, who worked on james & the giant peach, corpse bride, and nightmare before christmas! but yeah, other than that, i can't find any pictures or clips or anything :/
