so, this is me just restating that which i deleted from a previous post, for those of you who missed it ;D
i was thinking, it would be cool to have different artists design various... THINGS that would be displayed in an online gallery on crunchyco, and also available for sale. it'll be sort of like those dunnies that toyrobot did? but, instead of a blank canvas or toy bunnies, we'd use practical items as canvases--- like salt and pepper shakers, rulers, folders, whatever, i can't think of anything else off the top of my head right now. but USEFUL things pretty much.
anyway. the way it would be organized, since most of the artists associated with crunchyco live kind of far-ish, (kinoko, firedrill, goshadole) we'd have to send the blank items to them via postal service, along with instructions and a deadline to send it back. then! when we get it back, we'll take some pictures (as professional as possible) and put it up in an online gallery.
how's that sound?

You should post some links to some kid robot/dunny stuff to show people what you're talking about. so they'd be available in a gallery to view and then if people wanted to buy them they could buy them? that sounds pretty neat. so obviously these wouldn't be mass produced items right, so the prices might be kind of high since they are original pieces of art? i guess it wouldn't matter much if we actually sold them or not because it would be cool just to have a nice gallery, although it would be ideal to at least make some money to cover shipping costs, which could get pricey for the larger items. I have an idea that I've been thinking about for awhile that could possibly help with this project. Since these are going to be physical objects for the most part, not just flat images, the gallery should be able to show them in three dimensions. I think the best way to display them online would be with Quicktime VR. Check it out: QVR WIKIQVR APPLEQUICKTIME VR OBJECT EXAMPLEThere are a lot of tutorials online on how to do it. It seems a little difficult but I really want to try it sometime.

YES! i was thinking something like that, too. but i thought it was only possible in my dreams if not, we could just have thumbnails of other views next to the main image for that particular piece. right? and yeah, i was thinking since they're one of a kind, the prices could be pricey. especially because, it would appeal to more people than just the regular crunchyco fans, or chiptune fans, or whatever. like, someone who likes country can like a salt and pepper shaker with SWEET ART on it. and so can someone who hates video games. i don't know. i'm just using examples to be redundant and here's a link to the DUNNIES --> www.kidrobot.com/content.cfm?section=dunny they have several different series, all designed by different artists, and you can read up on that here--> www.kidrobot.com/html/dunny2/about.htmland, i probably have to fix those links 'cause last time i tried to use html on here it didn't work. so anyway. imagine that. on some everyday item that will actually get some use and, it won't be all professional and clean because it won't be mass produced in some factory.. it will all be by hand, and one of a kind. and i'm getting excited thinking about it heehee

yeah you can't use html. there's a special forum code.
so yeah it sounds like a pretty solid plan that is similar to the dunny thing but different in two major ways: 1. dunnys just sit there and do nothing. our stuff would be useful 2. dunnys are sold in "blind assortments" so you don't know what you're getting. our stuff could be viewed before purchased.
Now my only concern is the cost. The two costs are: 1. the items themselves 2. shipping
The costs of the items will most likely be small because the whole idea seems to be taking a cheap every day item and making it into something much cooler. The shipping cost is what I'm concerned about. Depending on how many artists are involved in this, it could get expensive. Also, would we expect the artists to pay shipping to send it back to us, or would we cover that too?
Also, one thing we can do to get artists involved is seek them out on sites like deviantart.com. I think it's about time we start dipping our hands into those established communities and plucking out talent.

it seems like you're the only one interested in this idea, gabe? maybe if i had a PENIS, my ideas would get more responses.
or maybe i just have really crappy ideas.
but anyway, i'm just trying to think of ways to make crunchyco more ACTIVE, in more than just webcomics and music. but also active in the sense that more people are involved, and more people are excited about it. and also, there should be something that more people can enjoy, right? and what better way than to have artists of all different styles create something, which can be enjoyed by people with all sorts of aesthetic tastes?
plus, it will encourage different artists in the area to make stuff, and the work they do will be exclusive to crunchyco, and one of a kind. not like submitting artwork that was done already, and is just being displayed on here, but has no real connection? you know what i mean?

So now it is cool. Or like just other crazy things, or normal things. i think this would be really fun... hmm
