I don't know about this Gabe. I'm actually a little angry about it. I can understand the sentiment about not wanting to play until your performance is perfected and everything. That's all well and good if you don't want to play shows until then. But you don't have any other shows already booked. You've been putting your name on lists and flyers for this since like July. Whether it's preferable or not, you really have an obligation to play at this event. And considering it isn't really your event to coordinate, I don't think you have much say in the matter. You're signed up for it and it would honestly be really bad form to drop out right now.
I know Lemonfest isn't a big deal to most people playing. But it isn't about big important fancy shows or making an impression. If you're on the list, you play the show, and if for some reason you can't, two weeks before the actual show is not the time to drop out.
I don't see what you guys are so concerned about. I think you guys could honestly deliver a "mediocre" set in your guys' eyes and it would still be fantastic. You guys were fantastic at Chop Suey. You could do the exact same set, start to finish, and people would still eat it up. I've seen you guys do wonderful, and I've seen you guys do not so wonderful. But even sets where you were unprepared (The LAB August 07), there were massive technical difficulties (Grassfest 08 or MetalTech in December 07), or you were playing songs made two days before the show (GZ August 08), everyone I ever talked to said you did an amazing job and were tons of fun to watch, whether it was the first time seeing you or not.
Please come play the show. Deliver a half-assed boring set at least. Just play it. I think you owe it to everyone at this point. Then you can go on Hiatus all you want. But you can't pull this now.
In all honesty, my processor is messed up for some unknown reason and I haven't been able to get my guitar to sound right since Chop Suey, and it probably won't be ready in time for the show, and this has been extremely discouraging for me. But I'm not going to skip out because I'm afraid I might sound like crap. However it turns out, I said I'd play and I'll play.
In short, no you're not dropping out. Please.

And considering it isn't really your event to coordinate, I don't think you have much say in the matter. Well actually I do. Zak and I are the main coordinators of this event. You're signed up for it and it would honestly be really bad form to drop out right now. I agree to some extent that it is bad form to drop out of any show you've agreed to play. In the past KGHB would never turn down a show and we definitely never would drop out of one unless we absolutely had to. Aaron would disagree with me on this, but I will admit that it is kind of lame and disappointing that we are dropping out. All I can say in our defense is that this will be the last disappointment. We're going to work hard and stop making promises that we can't fulfill. For the handful of people that will be disappointed by us not playing, our next show will make it up to you for sure. I know Lemonfest isn't a big deal to most people playing. But it isn't about big important fancy shows or making an impression. You're right, it's not about that. For me it's always been and always will be about simply having fun sharing my music. It's not that Lemonfest isn't big and fancy enough; I don't care about that, and I'm not concerned much with impressing people either. It is important to impress ourselves though, and know that we are sharing our music to the best of our potential and having the most fun we can. two weeks before the actual show is not the time to drop out. Two weeks notice seems pretty reasonable to me. We haven't really started the heavy promoting yet. It's just bad when bands drop out like the day before or the day of. We made sure not to do that. You do make some very good points here Jack. I personally would be okay with doing another 'mediocre' set, because I'll still have fun and I do realize that other people don't necessarily see it as mediocre. Aaron is a bit more dissatisfied with doing so because not being as ready as he would like to be makes him enjoy himself less. He's expressed that he wouldn't get the same satisfaction as I would from playing Lemonfest, and I in turn am not going to force KGHB to play the show if one of us is unsatisfied. It's not just about how fans perceive us, it's about how we perceive ourselves. A band needs to make changes if they're not happy with the way they perform. Just play it. I think you owe it to everyone at this point. I think the only thing we owe to everyone at this point is something new. We have been playing the same show for years. Some fans have actually lost interest and no longer come to our shows because they keep seeing and hearing the same thing over and over again. I think we owe it to our fans to be better than that, and the next time we do play a show, give them something that will really blow them away. I'm not going to skip out because I'm afraid I might sound like crap. However it turns out, I said I'd play and I'll play. That's great. We know you'll do just fine and we can't wait to see you play. In short, no you're not dropping out. Please. Sorry, but what's done is done. We can't jump back in at this point. Lemonfest will still be a lot of fun and we're looking forward to enjoying it with everyone as attendees.

Oh and Atomic, here's the final flyer changes:
Remove KGHB Remove "and More" Add "In the Company of Wolves"
If you can make the changes and post it here, I'll re-upload it to the lemonfest page. thanks.

Alright so we have a week until Lemonfest. We'd obviously like to get as many people there as we can to make it as fun and worthwhile as possible so promoting is the key.
Firstly, I printed 1200 full color flyers which Zak and company are working on distributing at various schools and events. I also printed 10 posters, some of which will be going up at the Mirkwood of course and perhaps some local store windows or something.
Secondly, there's the word-of-mouth method which I urge everyone to help out with because it is so effortless but probably the most effective. Just tell everyone you know and everyone you talk to during the next week about the event. Invite people to come and have a good time with you. Put emphasis on the good bands that will be there and the fact that $3 for a Saturday night of entertainment like this is pretty fuckin' worth it.
Lastly, there's online promotion. Tomorrow I'm gonna make and post up some smaller standard web size banners to paste around the world wide web. I'd encourage everyone to use them where ever they can. Post them in bulletins, on forums, blogs, event listings, personal profiles, myspace, facebook, last.fm, livejournal, deviantart, gaia, stickam, youtube, whatever, pretty much anywhere you frequent on the web and anywhere else you can think of that will help promote or allows you to post an event listing. Maybe you could even include a small lemonfest banner after every comment or bulletin you post during the next week as if it's your signature. I'm going to send this message to all the bands as well.
If anyone has any more ideas to help promote, please post them. Thanks

I'm so disappointed you aren't playing. I very likely won't be able to make it anyway, however.

It's mostly a matter of getting up there. Given that Arlington is a little... out of the way.

haha yea i guess it is. best thing to do is carpool. cram a bunch of people into one car and all pitch in a couple bucks for gas. cheap and efficient

yea, that really is the best way. we made it to grassfest that way, but i don't think we can make it to lemonfest that way all of the people who have a car, or could get someone else to drive can't do it. if i can figure out a way to go i'll probably be there, but it seems pretty unrealistic at this point especially sad since my first encounter with you guys, was at the last grassfest.

alright so lemonfest 08 has come and gone. it was an all around good show. didn't get as many people in the door as we would have hoped, but i had a good time nonetheless. the bands all did great (sirens sister was actually the highlight for me) and the mirkwood was a pretty kickass venue. kind of funny though that last year seemed to be more successful even though it was just in zak's garage in the middle of nowhere; or maybe it just seemed that way because people were crammed into such a tiny space. who knows, anyway, now we gotta start thinking about plans for the end of the year. we have a new compilation and a new crunchyco t-shirt to make!
